Puzzle Rush and Puzzle Duel: Against the Clock and Against a Friend

Two fast tactics drills on Rovian: Puzzle Rush, solving as many as you can against the clock, and a duel where you and a friend face the same five puzzles.

Puzzle Rush is a race where you solve puzzles back to back until the clock runs out. They arrive easy first and get harder as long as you keep getting them right.

Puzzle Duel is the two-player version: you challenge a friend, both of you solve the SAME five puzzles, and the results are compared.

What is Rush good for?

Ordinary puzzle training is about finding the right move; Rush adds time pressure. That's exactly the real-game situation: find the right move while the clock ticks.

The concrete benefit is that easy motifs start registering without thought. A hanging piece, a back-rank mate, a simple fork — turn those into reflexes and you buy yourself time in blitz and bullet.

Your best score is saved and counts towards your XP. For most players, beating their own record is motivation enough.

How does the duel work?

You send a friend a duel. Both of you see the same five puzzles — no luck involved, you're sitting the same exam.

At the end you compare how many each of you got right and how fast. Played against a friend at your level, it beats solving alone by a distance.

A duel takes far less time than a game, which makes it the quickest way to say “let's have a go”. You don't even need a camera.

Which one, when?

⚡ Rush to warm up: five minutes before a game sharpens your eye.

🤜 A duel for competition: a way to keep score with a friend away from the board.

🎯 Theme sets to learn: to study a specific motif, puzzle themes is the right tool.

To start Rush: Puzzle Rush. The duel lives on the puzzles page, next to your friend list.
