The leaderboard is the live ranking of Rovian's best players, kept per category. Bullet, blitz and rapid are separate, and you need one rated game before you appear.
Alongside it runs a second progress line: XP and levels. Rating measures how well you play; XP measures how much you put in.
How is XP earned?
XP is derived from counters you already have, so there's no separate reward system to manage. The weights:
♟️ Each rated game: 8 XP — regardless of result, because playing counts.
🏅 A win: +12 XP, a draw: +4 XP (on top of the game).
🧩 Each puzzle solved: 4 XP.
⚡ Each point of your Puzzle Rush record: 6 XP.
🔥 Each day of your best daily streak: 20 XP.
Losing games earning XP is deliberate: the aim is to reward playing, not to add pressure to win.
Tiers: from pawn to king
Your total XP maps to a level, and the level to a piece tier: pawn, knight, bishop, rook, queen and king. Your tier shows on your profile and on the leaderboard.
Tier is independent of rating. A 1200-rated player who solves every day can outrank an 1800 who plays twice a month. They measure different things.
What's on the leaderboard?
A podium on top, the ranking below. You also see your own position; before your first rated game it says you'll enter the ranking with it.
Puzzles have their own lists: solvers of the week and of the month. The names there are often completely different from the game ranking — plenty of people solve daily without finding time to play.
