Puzzles Made from Your Own Mistakes: Don't Fall for It Twice

Rovian turns the critical moments of the games you analyse into personal puzzles. The same position comes back, and this time you find the right move.

Personal puzzles are a set generated from the mistakes in your own games. When you analyse a game, the engine flags the critical moments; those positions come back to the board, and this time you have to find the right move.

Here's the difference: a random tactics puzzle from the internet may teach you a trap you never fall for. A puzzle made from your own mistake teaches the one you actually fell for.

How are they generated?

The chain runs like this: you play a game → you analyse it → the engine finds your errors and missed chances → puzzles come out of them.

The puzzle also tells you what you played at the time. Seeing “you played ♗c4 here” reminds you what kind of thinking produced the mistake.

They're collected under their own heading in the Puzzles section: Personal Puzzles.

A prescription per mistake type

The system sorts your errors into categories: hanging piece, missed mate, allowing mate, fork, pin, endgame errors and so on.

When one category starts repeating, it tells you: “We caught a pattern: hanging pieces. Here are puzzles on it.” So the mistake stops being a warning and becomes a study topic.

Your most frequent error type also tops your weekly summary — details in our weekly report post.

Community puzzles: from other people's games

When your own games aren't enough, there are puzzles drawn from REAL games played on Rovian — not book positions, but real people's real mistakes.

They feel familiar, because they arise at these tempos, at these hours, in these kinds of games. You'll find them on the community puzzles page.

Why does it work?

Because memory runs on context. You remember the position, the piece placement and what you were thinking; finding the right move this time makes the connection stick.

To analyse a game and see your own puzzles, go to your games — and if you haven't played one yet, start there: find an opponent.

See you in the next story.
