The puzzle of the day is a single chess position that opens for everyone on Rovian at the same time each day. Look at the board, find the best move, solve it. Five minutes a day, that's all.
The point isn't one puzzle but continuity. Every day you solve it, your streak grows by one; miss a day and it resets. That simple counter is what turns tactics work into a habit.
How do you keep the streak?
The rule is plain: solve today's puzzle and the streak continues. Reveal the solution before finding it yourself and the day doesn't count — the screen warns you first, so you won't lose it by accident.
Taking a hint doesn't break the streak. First you're told which piece to move; if you still can't see it, the move itself is shown. Asking for a hint when you're stuck teaches you more than giving up unseen.
Your streak shows on your Dashboard and profile, and there's a ready-made share text for the days you solve it.
Heatmap and theme days
The daily heatmap on the puzzle page shows which days you solved, square by square; darker squares are busier days. A month at a glance tells you whether you're consistent or just binge on weekends.
Days have themes too: Mate Day, Fork Day, Pin Day, Hanging Piece Day, Endgame Day. Seeing the same motif repeatedly is how your eye learns the pattern.
How many people solved it?
Under each puzzle you see how many people solved it that day. If you hit a hard one, that number tells you it isn't just you.
There are also weekly and monthly solver leaderboards. If you enjoy competition, the target is clear: solve consistently and you're on the list.
What if you're a guest?
You can see the puzzles, but keeping a streak requires a registered account — a streak needs a permanent profile to attach to. Signing up is free and takes seconds.
